Three cheeky goats caused a traffic jam on the M5 today. Drivers are used to delays because of roadworks, busy traffic and sometimes crashes.

But today, they got a big surprise when three goats wandered onto the motorway near Stroud at lunchtime. Cars had to stop in both directions between Quedgeley and Stroud. The police and traffic officers from National Highways tried to catch the goats for about an hour.

Some drivers even got out of their cars to cheer on the people trying to catch the quick-footed animals. The police in Gloucestershire said all the goats were caught safely. National Highways said they took the goats far away from the motorway, reports Gloucestershire Live.

The M5 was open again by about 2.15pm, but there were still long delays for a while after. A video shows the last goat being caught by the police and highways staff. It looks like the goat left the motorway and went to the side of the road. The drivers clapped and cheered when the animal was caught.

Gloucestershire Police stated: "Police were called at around 12.45pm following reports of animals on M5 northbound carriageway between junctions 12 and 13. The motorway was temporarily closed in both directions while the animals were removed from the carriageway and reopened at around 2.15pm."
